Feeling a bleak russian setting, never played either series. One's older and more dated but grounded in semi realism and based on real places. The other captures that bleak russian setting once again, but in a more fantastical way. Both seem like good games, but only want to invest in one at the moment.
Also, will stalker feel more dated if I play metro first i know they are unrelated but play similarly. They're both very different experiences. Even Exodus, which has a pseudo open world, is hardly comparable to Stalker. I prefer the Stalker series but I've also been playing them since the lost alpha days. The only modern game that can compare to the same tension, looting, and gunplay is Escape from Tarkov for me and that is still obviously miles away different. Since only from below can one better see the heights. I also have the Edge of Darkness edition for tarkov so it seems I'm on the right track!
I just picked up the Stalker's pack on steam and metro redux for free via gamepass! I might have enough games now to wait out the Cold War! Thanks for the recommendations! Stalker is quite good, I enjoyed the little I've played of those games.
Metro games definitely have more polish overall I'd say I loved the Metro games so you can't go wrong with them for sure. That said, Stalker are fun, but may be harder for some people to get past the jank. Solid's snake still shoots liquid, it's just that it's null. Very different games, like two halves of an absolutely perfect game. While Metro obviously has better production values, Stalker just feels more "complete" and immersive, like you're a dude in the Zone rather than some dude with his own motivations going from one place to the next.
They both have some really amazing and unforgettable moments and have some pretty good gameplay. One thing that Stalker has is its moddability, Stalker's Misery mod is absolutely fantastic, plus a bunch of other total conversion mods. CommunismFTW 1 year ago 8.
